Engineers from British Sky Broadcasting have spent the week volunteering with the Samaritans as part of the company's plan for staff to contribute to their local community.

The staff worked on renovating a Samaritans branch in Bounds Green, North London and carried out tasks such as preparing fences, disposing of old furniture, clearing the garden, cleaning and painting.

British Sky Broadcasting allows employees to take two paid days every year to carry out volunteer work as part of its Bigger Picture programme.

Team manager at British Sky Broadcasting Christo Pavlibeyi said: "We chose Samaritans because the work they do within the community is vital for individuals of all ages who require emotional support. They provide a 24-hour service where people can get support for any kind of problem."

The renovations will allow the Samaritans to use the space for recruitment, training and fundraising events.
