Tesco hires 2,000 long-term unemployed

Tesco has recruited more than 2,000 long-term unemployed since February 2007.
The retailer plans to open a new store in Cheetham Hill, Manchester and has confirmed 119 jobs will be created there for long-term unemployed people.
Tesco has been working closely with Jobcentre Plus and the Government's Local Employment Partnerships programme to employ staff who had previously been unemployed for more than six months. It also focuses on training staff through accredited development schemes.
David Potts, retail director at Tesco, said: "As a growing employer, dedicated to creating a great place to work for all employees, our new staff members will be given the support and training they need to harness the potential and talent they can bring to our diverse workforce. These appointments also demonstrate Tesco's commitment to the community and strong desire to employ local people."
