Remote workers fear isolation amid bad management

Nearly half (47%) of employees who want to work flexibly fear being left isolated, and out of touch with office camaraderie, according to research by BT Business.
The findings come despite the fact these same staff believe they will be more effective. According to BT Business, the results of its survey shows managers do not know how to adequately manage those who work from home.
"Eighty-eight per cent of managers have never received training on how to manage remote workers," said Bill Murphy, managing director, BT Business. He added: "While technology may have provided the means to work remotely, many businesses are hampered by outdated management techniques."
Dr Frank Shaw, director at The Centre for Future Studies said: "Remote working is the future of work in the UK, but management skills are not in place."
