Half of employees put pressure on bosses to have a more environmentally-friendly workplace.

According to research from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, 51% of employees say they lobby their employer to introduce green practices and procedures such as energy-saving and recycling initiatives. This compares with 27% in 2005.

One in five (80%) of UK staff believes they are more environmentally-conscious than they were three years ago; 70% switch off computers overnight compared with 14% in 2005; 82% recycle paper compared with 20% in 2005; and 37% reduce their fuel consumption by lift-sharing with colleagues compared with 32% in 2005.

Steve Kendall-Smith, managing director UK at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, said: "Our research shows the gap between how green we are at home and how green we are at work is certainly closing. We hope the increased lobbying from this now well-established group of ‘green collar workers' can help to make many more UK businesses greener places to work in the future."
